No Home Jerome: Phil Ivey

If you happen to watch poker at all, whether it’s the little tournaments or even the World Series of Poker then you most likely have heard of Phil Ivey. He is currently the number one money maker in poker. He is an excellent poker player who deserves everything that has come to him.

Ivey was born in Riverside, California and moved to Roselle, New Jersey, when he was three months old. Now resides in Las Vegas a city that brought him to the point in his career that he is now. Phil Ivey being one of the best poker players in the world was given the nickname, ‘The Tiger Woods of Poker’, and he also has another nickname, ‘No Home Jerome’. The first one is his more prominent nickname since it describes him at his best.

Although Phil Ivey is the top money maker in poker he uses his money for good reasons. Phil Ivey is a supporter of charities, and is known to donate to a number of charitable causes. In March of 2008 Phil Ivey donated $50,000 to a charity in Las Vegas known as the Empowered 2 Excel. After this donation the charity changed its name to the Budding Ivey Foundation.

All in all Phil Ivey has only won seven bracelets so far, but that doesn’t stop him from being at the top. He might not have as much bracelets, but he is the top money maker which should mean something. He tied for a record with Phil Hellmuth for winning three bracelets at the 2002 Worlds Series of Poker. He tied for the record, which was the most tournaments won in a year, with Phil Hellmuth among others. In 2000 he won a bracelet for winning a $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha Tournament. In 2005 Phil Ivey won a bracelet for a $5,000 Pot Limit Omaha tournament. In 2009 he had two bracelet wins. He won a bracelet for the $2,500 No-Limit 2-7 Draw Lowball, and for the $2,500 Omaha Hi Lo 7 Card Stud Hi Lo. He has won several bracelets in a short amount of time which makes him one of the best.

Phil Ivey has also made a great impression during the World Series of Poker series. He has scared many players, and has actually made the statement that they were not as good as he was at poker. He has taken there chips, and hasn’t looked back. Phil Ivey has also reached a record of eight final tables at the World Series of Poker which is a feat in and of itself. Phil Ivey has made it to the television final table and has cashed in eight out of the nine times he entered the World Series of Poker. Phil Ivey has made over three million dollars on clashes in the World Series of Poker. So, he is in fact the money maker.

Phil Ivey made his poker debut during the European Poker Tour when he began to make his first impression, but that wasn’t the first time that he had played poker ever. He has also played poker with his buddies from work which is where he ended up getting his first poker nickname.

Either way that you think about it Phil Ivey is one of the best out there today. He has raked over millions of dollars to which he gave some to charities. If you ever have the chance to watch him in action I can guarantee that you walk home a happier man.
